At Bracken Barrett, we understand that there’s nothing more natural than a beautiful smile. But if you’re not confident with your smile – perhaps you cover your teeth when you smile or you’re unhappy with the colour or alignment of your teeth, then it’s time to think about cosmetic or aesthetic dentistry.
Cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry includes teeth whitening, bonding and veneers, using the latest technology and materials to achieve the best results. At Bracken Barrett, we spend time with you to ensure we can personalise your treatment plan to your needs. We ensure that your dental work looks as natural as possible, while also being functional, healthy and beautiful. You’ll not only get a beautiful smile, but your mouth, jaw and teeth will all function properly.
Veneers: If you’re looking for a solution for stained, chipped, crooked or misshapen teeth, veneers could be the answer for you. Dental veneers are thin sheets of either composite or ceramic material, which are placed on your natural teeth to mask imperfections and can even help close small gaps if orthodontic treatment isn’t suitable for you. Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory and cemented onto the teeth, whereas composite can be made freehand on the surface of the tooth, with or without using a guide from a laboratory. Porcelain veneers can last from 10-15 years in ideal situations and composite bonding veneers from 5-7 years, depending on brushing habits, diet, tooth grinding habits and general aftercare/maintenance.
Whitening: Tooth whitening is a minimally invasive, safe and easy aesthetic solution for people with tooth discolouration. We can help whiten your teeth in several ways:
> Professional Tooth Cleaning. This helps to remove most superficial external stains. This is usually the first step in the process. We can ensure that you have a comfortable, thorough cleaning session with one of our dentists and can recommend a home care regime to get the most out of your whitening procedure.
> Home Teeth Whitening. Using custom made whitening trays, which can be made by a laboratory from a scan or impression of your teeth. We will design a plan for you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your home with a range of different strength whitening gels for different lengths of time to minimise sensitivity and maximise results. Most patients will achieve their desired result within 2-4 weeks. The beauty of this type of whitening is that you have control of your end result.
> In-chair Zoom Teeth Whitening. With this option you spend one visit in the chair with multiple rounds of bleach placed on the teeth. The visit will usually last approximately 1.5 hours in total and you will leave with brighter, whiter teeth. The shade of the teeth is checked before and after the procedure so that you can see the difference. This option can also be combined with take home whitening if you want to whiten the teeth further.
Composite Bonding: If you have chipped, decayed or discoloured teeth, composite bonding can help to repair and improve your smile, sometimes in as short a time as a single appointment. The composite resin we use in the treatment is carefully shaped, sculpted and polished to blend in and give you the desired smile. Composite bonding is a very conservative and minimally invasive treatment, often requiring no removal of tooth tissue.
How could Composite Bonding help you? Composite bonding can be used to treat a range of dental issues, including:
- Chipped, broken or decayed teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Discoloured teeth or teeth with white marks
- Misshapen teeth
- Composite white fillings / amalgam replacements
When looking at whether to replace amalgam fillings with composite white fillings, there are a number of things to consider, which we would discuss with you during your treatment consultation. Some metal fillings can be changed, for cosmetic reasons, to white fillings.
