Chemical peels are tailored to the patient’s skin conditions. Most peels are suitable for all skin types and as the ingredients are natural acids that are well-tolerated. Peeling skin, dry skin, redness, tingling sensation, itchiness. Rarely an allergic reaction occurs. Most of these side effect will improve after 72 hours. The skin may pigment if sun exposure cannot be avoided, and the patient is at risk of sunburn. We suggest the treatments commence in the winter months.

After assessment of the skin, the skin is cleansed, and a thin layer of product is applied. The patient will feel a tingling sensation, or some describe it as more of a burning feeling. The intenseness depends on the strength of the peel used. The products are rinsed of after two minutes and a mild sensation will remain, but this will wear off soon after. Moisturiser is applied to improve this also and sunblock is advised. A course may be suggested for continuous improvement of the skin condition. The skin may appear red, and some patient’s skin can peel superficially.
Precautions
Sun exposure will lead to skin burning and pigmentation. If the skin is peeling, picking is to be avoided as this can result in scarring and bleeding.
