Emma Barrett | Dentist

Something as simple as a dental procedure can be life changing when it gives you a new sense of confidence. It’s so rewarding to see how that new confidence can evolve into every aspect of a patient’s life.

Originally I wanted to be a pathologist, but my interest in biology took me to dental school in Liverpool, and then I worked in dental practice for a few years in the town I grew up in. I first came to Jersey 17 years ago to visit a friend, then ended up falling in love with the island, and started working alongside Jane Bracken as a dentist at the Bath Street surgery. Since then we’ve grown into a team of more than 20, with a wide range of dental services and specialists all under one roof. As dentists, we’re not just checking your teeth, we’re also looking at the health of your gums, any early signs of oral cancer or preventable decay. It’s a whole health check, which is why it’s so important to keep regular appointments.

The dental profession has made huge technical advancements and at Bracken Barrett, we’ve always invested in the most up-to-date technology, like the iTero 3D scanner which gives patients an instant digital record of their teeth in just three minutes. For our patients, there’s no need to take impressions or wait for them to arrive back, and you can really see the results of your treatment.

I also have a special interest in Invisalign® Orthodontic treatment . I have been using the system for over 15 years and  am now a platinum provider. I am currently studying a post-graduate diploma in Clear Aligner Therapy with the City of London Dental school. This means I can provide our patients with a best practice approach and a higher standard of clinical knowledge. One of the most rewarding things for me, seeing someone who was nervous about smiling being able to smile with confidence for the first time. When you smile, you’re in a better mood and so is everyone around you.

My secret skill? Baking. And although I seem to have a different favourite recipe every day, my famous chocolate brownies still win hands down.
